چکیده

We show that if a linear code admits an extension, then it necessarily admits a linear extension. There are many linear codes that are known to admit no linear extensions. Our result implies that these codes are in fact maximal. We are able to characterize maximal linear (n, k, d)q-codes as complete (weighted) (n, n − d)-arcs in PG(k−1, q). At the same time our results sharply limit the possibilities for constructing long nonlinear codes. The central ideas to our approach are the Bruen-Silverman model of linear codes, and some well known results on the theory of directions determined by affine point-sets in PG(k, q).

On certain maximality principles

‎We present streamlined proofs of certain maximality principles studied by Hamkins‎ ‎and Woodin‎. ‎Moreover‎, ‎we formulate an intermediate maximality principle‎, ‎which is‎ ‎shown here to be equiconsistent with the existence of a weakly compact cardinal $kappa$ such that $V_{kappa}prec V$‎.

Coprimitive sets and inextendable codes

Complete (n, r)-arcs in PG(k − 1, q) and projective (n, k, n − r)q-codes that admit no projective extensions are equivalent objects. We show that projective codes of reasonable length admit only projective extensions. Thus, we are able to prove the maximality of many known linear codes. At the same time our results sharply limit the possibilities for constructing long nonlinear codes. We also s...

Partial spreads in random network coding

ABSTRACT. Following the approach by R. Kötter and F. R. Kschischang, we study network codes as families of k-dimensional linear subspaces of a vector space Fq , q being a prime power and Fq the finite field with q elements. In particular, following an idea in finite projective geometry, we introduce a class of network codes which we call partial spread codes. Partial spread codes naturally gene...

Constacyclic Codes over Group Ring (Zq[v])/G

Recently, codes over some special finite rings especially chain rings have been studied. More recently, codes over finite non-chain rings have been also considered. Study on codes over such rings or rings in general is motivated by the existence of some special maps called Gray maps whose images give codes over fields. Quantum error-correcting (QEC) codes play a crucial role in protecting quantum ...

Cyclic Orbit Codes with the Normalizer of a Singer Subgroup

An algebraic construction for constant dimension subspace codes is called orbit code. It arises as the orbits under the action of a subgroup of the general linear group on subspaces in an ambient space. In particular orbit codes of a Singer subgroup of the general linear group has investigated recently. In this paper, we consider the normalizer of a Singer subgroup of the general linear group a...
